There were no classes at Roy H. Mann Junior High School in Mill Basin today — just tears. Students spent the day remembering 13 year-old Jack Yaacov, an eighth-grader at the school who took his own life yesterday. Children made pictures, a mural, wrote down their thoughts and told stories of their beloved friend. Described as an outgoing and happy kid, who was known around the neighborhood for riding his skateboard, Yaacov had faced difficulty in school, failing nearly all his classes. He had attended PS 312 and for a time went to a local Yeshiva until he transferred to Roy Mann.
Yaacov hanged himself by a belt at his family’s home.
Grief counselers were at the school today and a letter from the principal went home to students. A Facebook page in Yaacov’s memory has been set-up.

today was such a hard day without seeing jacks face in our schools. if we could turn back the clocks and stop this we all would. just 2 weeks ago i hung out with him and friends
I didn’t know him but suicide is NEVER THE ANSWER. If you are thinking about it or know another person thinking about it, don’t hesitate, even if it seems awkward or you don’t know what to say. Call the suicide hotline, because no life is worth taking away, especially if it’s someone taking their own life.

Such a great loss – My thoughts and prayers are with the Yaacov family. I remember Jack well at Warren Point School where I was secretary to the Principal.
Life is about phases, and as we grow older we all learn nothing is ever as bad as it seems and it could always be a worse situation. Even at that moment when you feel like your the only person going through that specific problem life throws at you, there are a bunch of other people who are experiencing the same difficulties, and there are plenty who have already experienced them as well. I guess as a young teenager you might not understand that life gets better… Whether it be boy or girl problems, school problems, stereotypical problems, bullying, etc. Boyfriends and girlfriends come and go, some friends change, cliques break a part, grades go up and down. These are temporary problems, you can ask for help and more times than none there will always be someone there to lend that helping hand. You would be surprised to see that help is where you least expect it. You can talk to family members, teachers, friends, authority figures, religious authorities, a stranger if you want. There are even hot lines that you can call for multiple problems, home work, drug abuse, domestic violence, suicide and so fourth…. I know that sometimes people try to be good friends by keeping secrets safe, but if the secret is something that could harm or hurt someone then you need to open your mouth and tell someone. Sometimes being a good friend means you have to tell the secret , and although that person might be upset with you at the moment, they may thank you later. rip little soul i hope to meet you when my day has come.

oh my god. i actually just graduated from roy mann and nothing like that ever happened while i went there.he must have been pretty depresed and had no one to talk to. i just hope that doesn’t happen to anyone else and they can have a friend to talk to.hey you can always talk to mr.anokye. he’s pretty cool to talk to. -my condolances, mikael silva
love is deeper than the sharpest pain, love will give never gain, love will show in the anxcious hours,in your last breath your final hours, love is there when you only hate, while others love you and your life has no fate, love is all one can do when life tries to kill you,and you can’t follow through, when your about to take your life and you just wan’t to cry,who will you call with your last goodbye’s,love is twofold, you need one and the other, like a newly birthed child in the arms of its mother -this poem is written for jack and his family-may God be with you in your time of hurt
great kid beloved by all may he rest in peace. Great job gollubs
Take heart Parents, families, and friends of Jack Yaacov. Like the saying goes if God closes a door he opens a window. Do not let this issue at hand despair your souls. I believe that he is with God in heaven. RIP Jack.
It is a fact that in life we encounter problems that never erase from our memories. Like a shadow it never departs from an individual. Like my sister already stated,”When God closes a door he surely opens a window.” I believe he is with God. R.I.P Jack.
