BLOOOMINGTON, Indiana (Tony Gatto) Bloomington police say they have received information that drugs, specifically cocaine, may have played a role in the disappearance of Lauren Spierer. The Indiana University campus and social media networks are abuzz with talk that Lauren Spierer and her circle of friends were heavily involved in cocaine. At a news briefing this morning, Captain Joe Qualters, in answer to a question about a possible overdose by Spierer, said they have received “information” along those lines, but cautioned that it is one piece among many bits of information that is being gathered.
Qualters provided no new facts concerning the investigation, but he did report that police have video images of one or two vehicles that were seen in the area where Spierer went missing, and that video enhancement is being employed to better identify the vehicles. Police also said their announcement of “ten persons of interest” in the case should not be taken as a solid number. He said the number 10 is fluid and always changing. He did not, however, provide an updated count.
Today’s daily briefing was cut short by Captain Qualters after just ten minutes, with fewer than a half-dozen questions allowed. The news conference was truncated, despite continual proclamations by police, and Lauren’s family, that keeping-up media interest is important.
