A Mother’s Words Falling On Deaf Ears As The Lauren Spierer Mystery Deepens

It sounds like something out of a reality TV cop show.  In the interview room, the detective pulls his chair close to the main suspect, trying to reach his heart and get him to crack, break down and admit the truth, as difficult as it may be.

“We all come to a cross roads in our lives. We have a choice about which road we want to take. We all have that defining moment that’s going to define who we are .”

But those words were not spoken by an investigator.  And this is no TV show.  They come from Lauren Spierer’s mother, Charlene .

As each day passes with no word on what may have happened to her 20-year-old daughter, an Indiana University student, Mrs. Spierer’s remarks have grown more pointed and direct.  She holds up a photo of her daughter taken the night she was last seen. “I’m addressing the people that know the answer to where Lauren is.  This is our dear daughter, Lauren, OK?”

But who is she speaking to when she says “I’m begging and pleading with you to take the high road?”  Does she have a particular person or persons in mind?   Whomever she is speaking to, it is evident that so far her calls for help have gone unheeded.

With a more general brushstroke, she seems to be cutting into a wide swath of Lauren’s social circle, excoriating friends and acquaintances about the lack of cooperation with authorities. “What I can tell you is that I am extremely disappointed by the fact that only one of Lauren’s friends have called the Bloomington Police Department with any information.”  Mrs. Spierer  telling the world that the silence is deafening. “No piece of information that you have is too small, that it all leads to filling this puzzle that we all desperately need to have filled. So I’m extremely disappointed and my question to all of you is why?”

Police say they have no suspects in the nearly two-week old case.  They have a few pieces of evidence which have been made public.  Video confirms Lauren leaving her building and places her in the company of a man, whom police won’t identify, about ten minutes later a block away.  And then there is the witness statement, from a friend of Lauren’s, who says he saw her walking away from his apartment at about 4:30 a.m.  Police say that witness account cannot be corroborated and they are not releasing the name of the witness.  One last, but intriguing piece of information, which police have not commented on, is a phone call that was made at 4:15 a.m.  An attorney and a roommate of Lauren’s both say the call was placed to a friend who lives in the same building as Lauren.  The call originated from a phone owned by another of Lauren’s friends.

Charlene, and her husband, Robert have commended the Bloomington police department for the work they’ve done. But they are employing as many tools as they can in their desperate search for their daughter.  A post office box has been established to allow for anonymous tips.  “You can’t get much more anonymous than that,” Mrs. Spierer bluntly states.
“If you’re not comfortable with the Police Department, send it in the mail.”  The address is Find Lauren, P.O. Box 1226, Bloomington, IN 47402-1226.

Charlene Spierer shows unparalleled resilience each time she appears before the media.  Present at police briefings with Mr. Spierer and on occasion their daughter Rebecca, Lauren’s mother speaks clearly, concisely and with determination about the return of her daughter.  Following an update by Bloomington police Captain Joseph Qualters and a few reporter questions, Robert and Charlene are gently guided to the podium.  Robert goes first with an update on the search for his missing daughter.  Then his wife speaks.  While Robert is matter of fact in his presentation, Charlene’s is more emotional.  They stand off to the side, waiting for the captain to complete his remarks. One imagines what is going through their minds.  Robert, in his usual, casual attire of shorts and sneakers, and Charlene with her glasses hanging from the top of her shirt, they look like any average American couple.  The only difference is they have been thrust into a tragedy that seems to be painfully random.  Or as Mrs. Spierer herself puts it, “On June 3rd, my life changed forever.”

One sees Lauren in Charlene.  Mrs. Spierer is petite. She is also soft-spoken and, amazingly, walks around with a smile on her face and greets people, as does her husband, with thankfulness. Seeing this couple and who they are make it understandable how they are incredulous about Lauren’s friends not coming forward.  And Mrs. Spierer says if the shoe was on the other foot, things would be different.  “If this was a friend of Lauren’s and Lauren had information that would help us find her friend, she would have been there yesterday.”

In addition to speaking directly to Lauren’s friends, and to the person or persons who may hold information, Mrs. Spierer also talks to her daughter, as only a mother can. “Lauren, I love you with all my heart and soul, I am here for you 100 percent. I will never leave you. I love you with all my heart, and I need you back.

While Charlene Spierer can only hope that Lauren is actually hearing her words, she knows for sure that Lauren’s friends can hear what she is saying.  But these young men and women, who have been blessed with great fortune in life, have now left Bloomington for the summer. Robbie and Charlene remain, as does the hope that their daughter will soon come home.

  1. I certainlly understand Mrs. Spierer addressing her daughter’s so-called “friends”. Things just don’t add up here, and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to come to that conclusion. I know Bloomington; grew up in the area, and went to I.U. We are not talking about a huge area here… There’s something very fishy going on here – and I do believe her friends are covering up a LOT.
And, just maybe, the police are not as forth-coming as should be expected…

    • The police are under no obligation to be forthcoming. Being unnecessarily forthcoming can be counterproductive to their investigation. We’d all like to have more information on what the police know but it is not realistic to expect them to disclose information just to satisfy the public’s curiosity.

  2. I suspect that the police and the FBI have a pretty good idea as to what has happened and are trying to build a case. Not knowing where Lauren is makes it all very difficult because I’m sure that they have very limited evidence. JMHO

  3. I hope the “friends” read this from their comfy homes away from Bloomington and realize they need to do the right thing. All of them cannot be involved and someone who is on the periphery could and should call and help. If they read this, please do the right thing. You will be glad you did. It is not right to sit back and cover up a crime. Be the hero.

  4. Nicely done, Tony. I agree with your assessment of the Spierers. Their demeanor has been nothing short of inspiring.

  5. Its a nearly THREE week old case, Tony.

  6. I just found this article and wonder if it’s a misprint or something thats gone unnoticed.
    http://m.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2002538/Lauren-Spierer-missing-Mother-Charlene-sends-emotional-message-daughters-attacker.html
It says there was another confrontation at Rossmans building but police wont say what it was. Tony, do you know of this confrontation. I still cant help thinking that initial confrontation stopped her from going to her own apt. -she was 1 floor away where possibly her friends would have made her stay home after seeing how wasted she was.
check this out and let us know what you come up with. Also if this is friend involvemnet why do you think the mentality of the group is so tight and afraid to report any information that may help. I know that these days there is such a gang mentality that people are afraid they will get killed by a gang member. Could one of the kids be involved with a major drug ring that they fear retaliation? Or could these young adults fear being excluded from these cliques? Seems to me these groups are going to voluntarily break up a bit any way after this.

    • Some view the behavior of fraternities as “gang” like in their pledge of honor towards one another. There are discussion boards pouring out stories of some of the heinous acts that go on. Perhaps it goes beyond a fear of the law into a fear of repercussions from an inner social/collegiate faction.

    • It may be referring to the confrontation(s) on Friday afternoon (after Lauren was reported missing) between Wolf et al. and Rosenbaum/Rossman. The article says that Rossman was the last to see Lauren, so it appears to not have all of the facts straight.

    • Besides being in the UK and getting their info secondhand, the Daily Mail is not known for its presentation of the real facts.

  7. BPD need to put the pressure on JR. He left Bloomington the day after Lauren went missing and now crucial evidence that could of been seized is long gone. The car has been cleaned and so has the apartment- everyone has left. JR had no delay in retaining top lawyer and has remained SILENT.. He knows nothing?? Have any locals gone to JR’s apartment and stood at the front door? You might be shocked to know that you won’t be able to see the intersection at 11th and College- The tree’s and a small hill block the view- No way for him to have seen her “rounding the corner”. I’d think that discrepancy alone should be enough to interview him, and have a search warrant issued. I’ve heard he hasn’t been interviewed yet as he was the one that left town asap. Very puzzled as to why BPD are not pursuing this lead?? Poor Charlene, I haven’t a clue how she has held it all together this long..

    • How do you know what the view is looking out his windows? If that is not an assumption and is true you need to report that to the police ASAP!

  8. Of course that is JMO-

  9. Let me try it this way:

It is clear, then, that even though investigators are at a palpable standstill in this case, they still are in a 1950’s mindset in their investigatory methodology. The instinct to build a case by withholding the release of data has clashed head-on with the search to find L.S.

In other words, they seek to position themselves to one day say “This suspect knows certain facts that were not publicly released, and therefore this is the person.” This thought process runs counter to the need to swiftly locate L.S., which more likely can be accomplished by the release of information that could assist the involved public. In other words, their plea to assist the investigators clashes against the pleas of the involved public for more information.

That they are losing their participating audience is evidenced by the decreasing numbers reporting for the search each day. This shows a correspondingly increasing number of individuals who are reaching the conclusion that the efforts to find L. S. are for naught, a conclusion that does not bode well for the investigators, and especially does not bode well for the family.

The only antidote is to do something bold and different by way of assisting the public more, but you shall not catch me holding my breath waiting for that to happen.

TO INVESTIGATORS: Release the videos. With the advent of You Tube, the public, too, is capable of dissecting them.

TO LAUREN: Wherever you are, I hope you are at peace, and are able to stay at peace until we here on this side of the equation sort through this investigatory clash to find the best way to come for you.

    • It could be the post-Richard Pearl mentality. They don’t want to release information that might make someone appear guilty for fear of being sued.

But I agree with you – release the damn videos. Tell us who she was with and when. The public can help put these pieces together.

    • Your comments have been the most well thought out, and well written of any that I have read — and that includes my own. I am still very angry because this has happened before in Bloomington in the recent past, and it is my opinion that the BPD were over their heads on that one as well.

      Many thanks…

    • I agree with you fundamentally with releasing info However if you recall this is one of the ways they solved the Jill Behrman case. John myers knew things that only the suspect would. Also I think you have to be realistic that we are in a recovery mission. While her family needs her back one way or another, or of the main goals is justice now. Release of that info would have been more helpful in the hours she went missing.

  10. also I have been wondering about any security or surveillance crew at the small wood or any of those building along the route-maybe they saw her and took advantage of her condition. or saw or heard something- my daughters who got to school out of state their apt. have security which walks he building thursday thur. -sun. i noticed on one video of smallwood they only showed female security…..

  11. Search is underway along 37 in Monroe county. Massive search planned for Saturday.

  12. It’s almost certain her “friends” are involved in her disappearance. I’m sure the police know this, but they are not disclosing this information to the public. Her mother’s plea is most certainly at the encouragement of the police to push more of them forward.

Granted, I’m not a drug user, but I did drink a lot in college. If one of my friends went missing, though, I’d do anything I could to prove my innocence. Because her friends lawyered up, left down and have gone silent, I’m convinced they are involved. Who knows what they did with her body. I’m surprised it’s been this well hidden.

  13. Daniel Pearl you mean. Any word from the P.I’s that were hired? Lawyers or no lawyers, these kids should be made to talk. At least make a public statement.

  14. Many of you WATCH TOO MUCH DAMNED TV!!!!

  15. This is not relevant to this posting, but I have written to the Missing Lauren Spierer FB page and to her personal web page. The description of Lauren’s clothing still says white tank top…etc. I don’t know what more I can do but maybe post it here. The police issued a new description and the video frame. Don’t know if someone here has a means to get this to them but her page and the National Missing Person’s page still have old description. If someone finds her, it may be relevant. Just an FYI.

    • Can you explain what the new description is? Ever since I’ve been following this case I’ve heard the same thing – black stretch pants, white tank top, white loose-fitting shirt over the top of that (button-up). At one point I remember them saying the stretch pants also had silver zippers. Just for the sake of those of us who read this blog, can you give the old and new descriptions? Thanks!

      • They described it as a white top with butterfly sleeves and black stretch pants / leggings with zippers at the ankles.

  16. That would be Daniel Pearl, not Richard. Richard PERLE was a counterterrorism official under Clinton and George W. Tha said, R

  17. That said, my money (all of it) is on JR. Sorry for the double post.

  18. For those people expecting BPD to release some of the videos from that night or show the public additional evidence, don’t count on it. I remember when the “Night Stalker” was terrorizing California and San Francisco Mayor Dianne Feinstein (you might better know her as Senator Feinstein) went on TV and told the public what caliber of gun the killer was using as well as the exact style of shoes, they had determined, he was wearing. The very next day, Richard Ramirez threw the shoes and the gun in San Francisco Bay essentially ruining the investigation and the killings continued. BPD, no doubt has a lot more evidence than what they are releasing to the public and I’m sure that the FBI is coaching them.

  19. I can NOT read or hear moms words w/o crying. It is so obvious how much pain she is in. My heart breaks for her-the whole family. I wish i was closer so i could help in the searches. What a nightmare.
And to think ur child surrounded herself with these so called “friends”. If it were a good friend of mine there’d be no stopping my involvement in the hunt-in any way i could! seriously-shame on these people.

  20. Is anyone here in the Missing: Lauren Spierer page on Facebook? Does anyone else find it disturbing/odd that the same people comment all day there trying to speculate and “solve” the case?

Even more odd is the fact that these people are holding side convos about unrelated things – using “LOL, LMAO, :) ”. I swear these people are using this as a hobby and way to socialize.

  21. I believe a great injustice was done to this case from the beginning. The BPD listened to the kids accounts of the evening and did not get video surveillance fast enough. Now most if not all of the main persons of interest are gone. With their cars, clothes, shoes, apartments and houses cleaned out. It sounds like they are finally going back to square 1, the original accounts and the people closest to her that night. They keep saying they have everyone on their video so what are they waiting for? I hate to think they are waiting for a body so they will have evidence. Thats what the people responsible are waiting for- to see if they can get away with it. But how do you live with that for the rest of your life? It will change you forever-how can you go on, be a productive individual live a life of love and family one day? I’m sure it must lead to a life of self destruction, out of self loathing. Sometimes you have to take a look at what your here for. Maybe your mission in this life school is honesty. Honesty and responsibility. And those in YOUR life learn from how you handle a situation like this. You can have a ripple effect on the world around you. To many parents today misdirect their kids by saving them from learning lifes lessons. But if you dont learn your lesson your lesson gets harder and more difficult. So parents help your kids by teaching them to be honest when it counts. Lets make this a better world. And most importantly bring Laurens parents peace. Encourage your kids to be honest and responsible. This whole viral caring community will learn from your actions.
    Reply

    • What are they waiting for? I asked the same question. The fact of the matter is no one is ever going to find Lauren because to do so when implicate the police department. The police helped dispose of the body. The person responsible was a police informant or a police officer.

  22. What is the old saying….”A good friend will help you move; a really good friend will help you move a body.” Was that the purpose of the
4:15 a.m. telephone call? It is a rare individual who has absolutely no conscience. The people involved in this cover-up will be haunted the rest of their lives if they don’t come forward now. Abandoning a young woman,, not allowing her to be returned to her family, will reap some very BAD juju.

    • She’s 4’11″ and 90lbs soaking wet. Probably don’t need too many friends to help move a body. Hence the reference someone throwing her over their shoulder

  23. Justice WILL be served here – in time. The DAs office will convene a grand jury and subpoena all the POIs. They will have to testify under oath or risk perjury, which is a felony, a charge that no college student will want, let alone be convicted on. Those who really have no or little fault will then provide the most valuable information, perhaps in exchange for immunity. This will all play out, but in time. The parents, community and world will have to be patient.

That said, what a terrible commentary on our society and its values. Where are the ethics and the morality? Not only does this reflect poorly on the students, but on their parents as well. Mrs Spierer is so right on this point – if you know something, no matter how terrible, how could you not share it?

On the speculation side, in something like 99% of cases like this, the perpetrator(s) and victim(s) know each other, and it certainly sounds that way here. Again, its almost always those who were known to see the victim last. It seems like she never left 5 North Apts alive – CR, MB, JR know what happened – CRs attorney even told the press that he and his client know what happened. Drugs, alcohol, college boys and a cute, flirty, “little blond girl” who was drunk, drugged and smashed out of her mind does not make a safe combination.

My bet – some or all had sex with her – seems to be an Indiana tradition (see “Howie Yu”) and she either didn’t wake up in the morning or they “accidentally” suffocated her and decided to get rid of the evidence. CR and JR are not good guys – and worse, lack humanity, compassion and morality.

Their day will come, and made worse because they tried to cover it up.

  24. There’s a rumor going around that the police are involved in Lauren’s disappearance in the form of a police informant. I believe this is the most plausible explanation. That’s why they pretended to search Rossman’s car because they know who really did it. It was a police informant and that’s why they won’t release his name. Oh my God.

  25. Well said Cheryl!

  26. Does the university have any power here? Do the persons of interest in the case intend to come back to IU in the fall?? As an alum I am very disturbed by the idea that students named by police as of interest in Lauren’s disappearance would be allowed to return to the university.

  27. Tony, you cover this tragedy as a pro would, Keep it coming. I do see 1 large missing link, unless I missed it somewhere. But if there is so much video, and Lauren and Cory Rossman were walking back to the apartment, Cory was then punched in the face/head and he does not remember anything? Where is all the video that could have documented this? There must have been noise during this altercation that someone heard? All of a sudden there are deaf ears, we don’t hear anything about his altercation.

  28. @ Roy I was wondering about the video of the altercation at Smallwood. It would be interesting to see the behavior of Corey immediately after the altercation; perhaps to have a neurologist ~ medical expert observe the video for signs that might either confirm or exclude memory loss.

  29. Keeping quiet because the lawyer says so isn’t always the way to keep your name out of the spotlight. I can see the dateline/20/20/primetime stories and speculation now. If they think their life is ruined now, just wait until this is unsolved in 10 years and they live their lives as the “guys” that might have killed, and or buried the girl at IU.

    • At one point, I read that Corey Rossman was questioned as to if he knew what happened to Lauren. He replied “I have my ideas, I just hope the police are checking out what I told them.” Does anyone else remember this??? This was early on in the case, within the first couple days.

  30. What if perhaps, if this rumor of a confidential informant is true, this was a terrible accident at the hands of the informant or police. Suppose the three “unnamed individuals” seen arguing with Lauren were indeed a confidential officer or one possibly two plain clothed cops and something happened. Perhaps they startled her, with their identities and her heart gave her issues. Perhaps she was going to be locked up for public intoxication, resisted, cause a disturbance under the influence and an accident occurred. something isn’t added up and the BPD is dropping the ball.

  31. It was David Rohn !!!!!! The bar manager said the guy had sideburns. It was Rohn !!! Rohn is a police informant. Rohn was the one seen throwing her over his shoulder.

  32. The thing is that the police are in a bind now. If they release the fact that Rohn is a police informant and he had something to do with the death, the public is going to go crazy. They’ve obviously chosen the low road which is to stall and lie to Spierer’s parents and the public about it and make up all kinds of crazy leads like the white truck. Who do you go to when the police are the criminals?

  33. Gss. check out the youtube video nighmare near elm street -lauren spierer-beware its a bit offensive but i’m considering any scenero at this point. It supports your rumor–pretty informative with a rumor about laurens last text out- a tour of the evening with highlights of how many video cameras line the path that night- how these guys may be police informants- the goose chases to stall the truth. Why the boys were able to skip town so fast- with the police insuring us they have an open door and the boys will come back-although they cant prevent anyone from leaving the country (hint hint). Ill check tomorrow to hear what you think.

  34. I am following this case from Australia and it is such a heartbreaking situation, I really feel for Lauren’s family. I think something shady is definately in play here, it seems odd that a lot of the information given by Lauren’s friends is sketchy and seems badly put together. It’s a horrible shame that none of her friends seem to be particularly keen about coming forward with information – like most people I’m fairly convinced they know more than they are letting on – perhaps they are scared of getting into trouble over their behaviour or part in her disappearance.
I think the whole investigation is fishy, there are so many things that don’t make sense, and her friends seem to know more than they are letting on. I can understand why they might be scared – I’m a 22 yr old student, and having your whole future potentially ripped away is a scary prospect, I personally wouldn’t want that to happen to me – but I know doing the right thing is far more important, do most other people. These “friends” are cowards. Her family deserves to know what happened to her, and if any of her “friends” do know anything, it is despicable that they haven’t said anything (but then again, maybe they have and the police just haven’t said so).
More than anything, I feel sorry for Lauren – not just that this terrible, unthinkable thing has happened to her, something nobody deserves, but also that the people she surrounded herself with, if they had a part in all this and are two cowardly to say so, weren’t her friends at all as she probably thought, and that is so very sad.

  35. First of all my response to the “what would Lauren do?” is the old adage, “Show me your friends, and I’ll tell you what you are.” Doubt very much if L would be behaving any differently than her friends.

Also, the simplest explanation is usually what happened. Either she was snatched up walking home and she could be anywhere in the country now, or she passed out and died and her body was pitched somewhere some hours away and someone she knew did it.

Either way, the chances of getting caught may appear very slim to whoever is responsible, and the media frenzy will scare most people away. The Casey Anthony trial now on tv is a good example of what may happen to anyone who steps forward at this point. The person is hoping that the hub bub will die out in a short while, which it probably will if the body is not found and really the chances of getting caught may be slim. Trade that with the guaranteed trial of the year and truly a life changed. No way anyone who did it will step forward.

It’s the right thing to do, yes, but think of what that student’s life will be if he steps up right now and says he disposed of L’s body after having a drug tete a tete with her. He, and his family will be torn to bits. Legal expenses will make college costs cheap. Yeah, he’s scared, maybe ashamed, but it sure beats being he new Scott Peterson or Casey Anthoney. I think it is totally unreasonable to expect a young adult to step forward under these circumstances when he has a real chance of beating this rap.

What would you do if your kid said he gave L drugs, she died, he disposed of the body?

    • g – no offense, but some of your posts make me think you are the lawyer of a POI, or perhaps even a parent with some knowledge – reminding everyone via this avenue to keep their mouth shut by repeatedly pointing to the consequences.

Yep – the one to speak up will initially be the focus of all attention, finger pointing, etc. Though coming forward is still a greater advantage in court than having been apprehended. Besides, someone with peripheral involvement may not face any charges at all.

      • I had the same thought. G sounds involved in this personally.

      • No offense taken. Wrong on both counts, but really what difference would it make if were so? It’s the sense of the content that counts. I have no idea who any of you are, and am not trying to guess. Just read what you have to say and the sense of it. Never been to UI so I can’t comment on the layout and what’s possible other than going by what other’s say. Don’t personally know anyone who went or is going there. Not a lawyer, but I have had a lot of experience with partying young people doing stupid things.

Even on things not as serious as this, those parents with the wherewithal, financially and the knowledge/experience, lawyer up their kids. It can make a difference in the consequences. And it is recommended highly that if anyone is suspected or involved in a criminal matter, that they have guidance from a criminal attorney before commenting.

I can comment and speculate away because I have absolutely no direct connection to any of this.

    • Friends of both Jay and Jesse discussing the case.

      • a friend of jw and a separate friend of the roommates of jr is more accurate,no?

small difference perhaps but perhaps not to the friend of jr’s roommates i would guess who allegedly is posting there

all the discussions on re ls is interesting including those mentioning jw’s brother allegedly posting another site

        cheers

(internet being what it is – nothing at face value but i too thought the threads at the phish head site interesting and informative)

      • There a friend of Rosenbaum’s roommates, but also someone who claims to know Rosenbaum, who has this to say about him:

“dude, if you think jay rosenbaum is smart enough to ditch a body at 4 in the morning, and hide it so well that it couldnt be found for 2+ weeks, you have never met him. also, he is not a coke dealer.”

I didn’t catch the stuff on Wolff’s brother. What was that about?

      • was that quote by “Ray_” something-or-other? is so, that is according to himself in the thread a friend of JR’s roommates. If your quote was not by “Ray_” something or other then all apologies as I missed that in the somewhat hard to navigate board format.

in regards to someone who alleged is JR’s brother there was a mention in an very early thread

        http://phantasytour.com/bands/1/topics/2726003/posts

4th page near or at bottom. sorry this phish head board is not so easy to cite or search.

still – if you can get through a lot of the nonsense posters in these threads there is perhaps some interesting speculation

      • sorry – i meant to write JW’s brother!!!! – no mention of JR’s brother in the threads – keeping the important initials right got the better of me

  36. Supposedly a video of Jay 4 or 5 years ago…

    http://www.youtube.com/user/slerrr#p/a/u/1/_u_YjK9r3vU

  37. phantasy tour… really? hahaha lol. heady. is that just speculation or was she a tour kid?

  38. Could you provide the link to the video?

  39. last presser unless a development :(

  40. Like others here, I’ve thought it suspicious that JW reported Lauren’s disappearance to the police so soon after she went missing, rather than assuming she was with some other friends. But, I thought maybe things had changed since my college days since many kids today stay in contact almost constantly with friends via texting.

I’ve been wondering, though, is there any evidence (surveillance video) of JW being at smallwood during those early AM hours of June 3? What if he was at JR’s townhouse when Lauren went there? There are reports that JW & LS had a fight the previous day (is this confirmed?) and she may have been avoiding him. When JW saw the condition LS was in, maybe he decided to play a prank on her to “teach her a lesson.”

Some here have noted the hazing practice of dropping off a frat pledge at a secluded location, suggesting that someone did the same to LS. I think this is very credible…that JW & JR, and perhaps DR, took LS to an isolated spot, thinking that when she sobered up she would find her way back to campus. Instead, maybe the combination of alcohol, perhaps drugs, and the shock of finding oneself stranded was too much on her heart. That would explain why JW panicked and reported her disappearance to the police so quickly.

So, what may have started as a prank turned very tragic. Now the perps are confused and distraught, realizing that LS never made into town and has not been seen for three weeks. Unfortunately, they are more afraid for themselves than concerned about what LS’s family is going through. The longer they keep quiet, though, the more difficult it will be to prove that their intentions were not criminal. I don’t believe they took LS very far from downtown; they are many wooded areas around B’town and areas with dense vegetation (I wonder if “45″ west of town, near “37″ has been searched?). If a body is not found soon, it’s more likely it will be discovered in the late autumn and winter months when these areas are exposed.

    • I must say that your theory is respectfully, ridiculous. This age group (particularly this group of people as I am close to understanding the friendships firsthand) are more likely to play a reactive role in what happend (if involved) rather than play the proactive role—–that is, in the nature of deliberate action(s) (if deliberate, at all). I personally think that the young men involved have more of a conscience than what you described; (if) something happend their response was reactive. I wouldn’t give this group the credit for proactive, planning ahead.

  41. From what I have heard, the boyfriend and those who were in Lauren’s apartment are pretty much alibied up. The young man and the roommate that she left are also pretty much considered not in the picture. The focus is on the last place where Lauren partied and anyone else with no alibi who could have been cruising the streets. She either disappeared en route home via pick up or someone did away with her in that last apartment and she never did leave on her own. Those are pretty much the two possibilities.

  42. 2-1 odds here that the person “gss” trying to implicate the Bloomington police over and over again is the same guy promoting that whack job video on youtube
