  1. was that question basically – Has JR left for the country? Israel?

  2. Hopefully this can be looked into. Many Jewish kids do take summer trips to Israel through an organization but these are planned months in advance..

  3. does anything that the police believe this to be a stranger abduction?

i don’t think that is the case

his comments regarding the lack of contact from friends was telling and strong

    this poor family and community…

  4. It is possible. Someone who was driving back from some heavy partying or anything, and sees a tiny, pretty blond, stumbling along, could scoop her up in seconds and be out of the area in no time.

Body could just be dumped in some river somewhere.

It is also possible that some one she knew did the above as well.

    • This may have already been discussed, but would it be possible for someone to put her in their vehicle outside of 5 North and get out of the area without showing up on any of the video cameras?

    • Possible? Then why would no one speak with police if they were so truly innocent? You would think they would make any effort to have their names cleared asap.

    • Another possibility is that a heavy partier/drunk driver hit her and panicked…but hard to believe something like that could happen and nobody see anything.

  5. I take that to mean that they think they know what happened and they are gathering evidence?

  6. gathering evidence hopefully not too late, and now i cant help but wonder about the police informant theory. Tony can you comment on any of that.

  7. I think that BPD probably has a pretty good idea of what has happened and are sending hints about the “friends”. Proving their beliefs in court is probably impossible. I don’t expect this family to ever have closure.

With regard to progress, the Indiana Daily Student reports:

      ***
When asked if the police had a better idea of what happened to Lauren than they did three weeks ago, he said “No, no … Unfortunately not.”
      ***

With regard to the single friend that talked to police:

      ***
He also confirmed what Lauren’s mother, Charlene, said on Wednesday, that only one of Lauren’s friends has talked to the police. He also added that the police had to track this person down to talk to them.

Qualters called this, “curious, perplexing, disturbing and unfortunate.”
      ***

  8. i know mrs spierers said this earlier in the week, but when qualters fielded the question regarding lack of friends coming forward (without police going looking for them) i was chilled

in a case like this given the missing’s supposedly large group of close friends and acquaintances, close timeline and geographical nature of events, is that normal? seems highly suspect

is this really just personal decisions on the part of the ind. friends/acq’s or organizational?

all imho – wow just wow

    • Sorry for my ignorance…what did Qualters say that was chilling regarding the lack of friends coming forward?

I know Lauren’s mother said only one friend has come forward, but who does that mean? The roommate? I thought the roommate and bf had at least spoken to police previously, and the other boys, too before the whole lot of them lawyered up?

      • i dont have the exact quote but it was something along the lines of:
“only one of LS’s friends have come forward voluntarily to talk to police, the others we have to track down and it is perplexing, curious, disturbing, pick your adjective…” paraphrasing from memory and quick note

his tone and nearly reiterating LS’s comments from wed’s presser was notable and for me chilling

i am not sure if that is usual given this case – it sounds odd to cpt qualters at least

        imho

    • Sounds to me like it could be either organized crime or organized police enforcement. One or the other and based on the police’s actions so far, I’m leaning toward some kind of organized undercover law enforcement as weird as that may be. It’s scary.

  9. I feel certain the people involved read this blog. To these people, you will be caught eventually. If you did not have anything to do with this but know what is going on- come forward and save yourself. Otherwise you are obstructing justice and you are more involved than you may realize. Save yourself and come forward and tell the truth.

    • What I don’t get is if there are people out there who know what happened, but don’t want to get involved because of drug use, publicity, whatever…can’t they call the police anonymously to tell them what happened? I would think enough tips like that saying the same thing would give the police a LOT of help gathering evidence.

      • I suspect they fear being arrested and looped into the situation even if they heard about it after the fact. They most likely don’t know how to confirm they would not be arrested for not coming forward and don’t trust anonymous options to be anonymous. I think they are paralyzed with fear about what will happen to them if they come forward. Just safer to keep quiet. Such a selfish option.

If you did not do anything, you have nothing to fear. You do have the opportunity to be a hero and help this family- even anonymously. This would be a true act of selflessness and show great character to come forward. Be the hero!

      • More than being afraid of the police and getting arrested, might some of these friends of Lauren be afraid of how they will be perceived by their peers? Many of Lauren’s friends belong to a very tight-knit circle. Someone who has information that could implicate a friend in Lauren’s disappearance, or her demise, may fear being ostracized by other members of the group. In an earlier article, someone noted this group’s resemblance to a gang because of their group loyalty and drug culture. Really, cliques of this nature are much like a cult, too: no one in the group wants to be stigmatized as a traitor or for creating discord within the group.

    • I agree! Tony breaks the latest news, and they need to keep informed of the situation. If you know anything, please send an anonymous tip.

      1) Go to the public library and create an email account (gmail, hotmail, etc) Don’t use your personal information. Send an email to helpfindlauren@gmail.com.

      2) Please email Lauren’s location. You don’t need to include any names, what took place, etc.

  10. Unfortunately I think the ones involved fear that some how they will be able to find out who gave the information. That even if its anonymously they have ways of figuring out where the information came from.

  11. IMO – as soon as Lauren is found, charges are filed, or at least a grand jury will be called in

  12. I read that there is a planned search this Saturday. I assume there is some strategy to the last couple of planned searches – not just picking random areas? Maybe they are close?

  13. Many of the students there do not know anything specific that happened that night. Nothing. Those involved have a vested interest in knowing. At this point, even if charges are not pressed, the publicity alone is enough to scare off most people. Though the Spierer’s publicity press was effective in getting attention to Lauren’s disappearance, it is now not possible for someone to quietly come forward.

    • Sure it’s possible to come forward quietly.

      1. Write down LS’s location on index card
      2. put index card in envelope w/PO Box address given by her parents 3. drop stamped envelope into randon mailbox in random part of the state.

      • I would assume you could also drive for awhile and find a payphone at a gas station and call the hotline, right? I don’t know the number, but I am sure someone can post it.

      • … instead of writing it down you can even print it out or clip letters from the newspaper – heck, it really is NOT hard to stay anonymous.

      • If someone was guilty it wouldn’t be as easy as just giving a location anonymously.

They have everybodies DNA. The guilty party is not Dexter, or some professional killer. If the body is found it’s highly likely that even with a month of trying to cover ones tracks the killer would be discovered quickly.

Forensics is so good these days especially if FBI is involved. Everything from hair, shoe prints, anything…

Nobody who is guilty will come forward. If someone is sick enough to kill. They aren’t likely to show remorse, or empathy. Psychology 101.

It’s sad. I bet cops have a good idea it was a drug thing… But, can’t prove it.

Oh well, without the body this case has gone cold.

    • Sure it is. The Spierer’s have a PO Box. You can phrase a hint, tip, information so it won’t be connected to you. …. you can disclose Lauren’s location or where you think she might be because you know the person who did it….. you can DEFINITELY help out and stay anonymous……. of course you could also take the high road and just speak up. Get a lawyer, if it makes you feel more comfortable, if he has any grain he’ll guide you through a deposition where no harm will be done …..

    • So you are saying that telling the parents where there daughter is and doing the right thing is not an option because they fear publicity? That shows a real lack of decency and character if that is what they are saying. Sometimes the right thing is hard to do but they need to do it.

    • It’s been my observation that people who have been involved in drug abuse don’t have the sort of conscience that you or I have. In fact, they are more inclined to think that nothing is their problem or their fault. I think a lot of people here are projecting from the standpoint of their own character or morals, when the truth may be that the morals and character of the individuals in this case may have severely declined, or never have been present in the first place.

      • Bullseye! I think a lot of people are looking at this from the perspective of a normal sober adult when what you are dealing with is college kids with drinking and drug habits. I was one of those at one time and I can tell you from first hand experience that my thought processes then were leaps and bounds away from what they are now.

The first thing that I keep hearing that makes me think many people are not looking at this from the right perspective is the incredulity that people have shown over CR’s claim that he doesn’t remember things. Let me tell you firsthand that if in fact these kids were on coke and xanax then they could very conceivably be walking and talking while completely blitzed and not remember a blasted thing. While I only did xanax a handful of times I seem to remember (or not remember as the case may be) a trip to Big Lots with my friends that I have absolutely no recollection of. I only found out about it after the fact when my friends told me about it. They claimed I seemed perfectly lucid.

Second, I don’t want to sound harsh, but it makes me cringe when Lauren’s mother makes the claim that Lauren would step forward if it was one of her friends. If she was as drug addled as the information we are getting seems to suggest I think she would be trying to cover her ass just like the rest of her friends. That doesn’t mean she’s a bad person, it just goes to show the effect that drugs can have on perfectly sane individuals. I think this statement from Lauren’s mom my actually be working against her. When these friends hear it I could see their knee jerk reaction being one of rebellion and defiance instead of consideration and rectification.

This is what happens when people do drugs. When it comes to college students many grow out of it, some will go to rehab or AA and they will move on with their lives, earn their degrees and go to graduate school and then become homeowners, parents, workers, business people and generally productive members of society. Lucky for me I fall into that category. However, some become murderers. They kill their partners over drugs and bury them in the basement. Like some of my former “friends” did.

I’m not saying that what any of these kids is doing is right. I’m just saying that we need to consider this from the mindset of these individuals if we are going to figure out what they are thinking. As someone that has been in exactly the position Lauren was in I fear greatly that the outcome is not going to be pretty. As a parent I can’t even imagine not knowing where my baby is. I hope they find her soon.

      • Wow, people really twisted my comment around. Laura said what I was trying to say.

#1 if your a killer. You probably have an altered view of reality and set of morals

#2 when the cops have DNA of suspects. I’d the guilty party was to give a tip. You can guarantee the FBI would search for DNA everywhere when they find the body. Sure, it’s anonymous to report, but DNA is very very public.

#3 responding with the word “you” as if I am somehow linked to this is ridiculous and off base. I am just stating the obvious. A Close friend of mine grew up close friends of Lauren before she got into drugs/alcohol during the early years of highschool. Lauren was a well known socialite, and definitely got around. And got a BMW (or a lexus) for a birthday gift. However, all accounts Saudis was a good person, and it’s terrible whenever anything bad happens to anybody. Nobody deserves this. Especially her parents.

She was so popular. It’s sad that with all her friends she still didn’t manage to have enough real or responsible ones to take control of the situation, and let her fall into a situation where she was that disoriented in the middle of the night with relative strangers (reports said she met the guys she was with only 2 weeks prior at the Indy 500).

Shame to all involved. My point is simple. The guilty won’t reveal anything that could lead to an arrest. It doesn’t happen in other abduction cases. I doubt it would start now.

I still tend to believe the real culprit was drugs. An O.D. From drinking, w/cocaine or oxycotton. The guys freaked out. Made a call or two. And got rid of the body. They could of easily done it it the morning. Or following day. It wasn’t reported to following day, and I doubted police were banging on doors until the day after leaving at least a 36 hour window.

Also, if they were dealing drugs. One of them could easily had a prepaid phone that couldn’t be tracked. Or they could of used aim/skype/etc. And hid tracks very easily.

Also, who people hired for lawyers, and how quickly they did says a lot.

  14. I think the most interesting comment from Qualters today was, “No one that has been mentioned in this investigation has been cleared.”

    • Which means they don’t have anything of much value. I know that there have been 1000s of tips and theories and suspicions. Maybe some of them were fact. But none have panned out that have been pursued. But some things can’t be easily checked either. If someone says the body was dropped into Lake Michigan or something like that, it’s a dead end.

One of the posters gave two areas that are good drop sites likely to be known by those going to IU, as the poster was also once a Bloominton resident. Hopefully, those areas have been searched

  15. From another message board:

    1. He did not have his car that night, nor did he have access to someone else’s car

    2. The outgoing call that he made at ~4-430 in the morning was made to a friend with a car, trying to get him to come pick up Lauren and drive her back to smallwood

    3. He was not planning on spending the summer in Bloomington, even before this happened. was just up there for a few weeks partying

    4. For those of you saying he is not cooperating or answering questions…he has already taken and passed a polygraph test

    that is all.

    • ….. even if all this were true – he is still a jerk …… otherwise he would have a) offered her the couch or b) called her boyfriend or c) WALK HER HOME!

      • I take issue with this…

-it was only a couple of blocks and nowadays it isn’t really expected that a guy will walk you home. I have never had an offer to walk me home from someone who wasn’t interested in dating me.

-apparently he DID offer her the sofa, and she refused

-she wasn’t with her bf that night for a reason. Maybe calling him wouldn’t have made her happy.

        Hindsight is 20/20.

      • No, a guy walking a girl home is certainly not a requirement, but I dont care if he wasn’t interested in dating her, He still should have made sure she got home safe. If he was a gentleman, he would have. And maybe he wouldn’t have to feel guilty in this current state, where his friend went missing because HE LET HER WALK HOME BY HERSELF. He wasn’t the only one who let her walk alone, certainly, all of her friends are really to blame, but still- Walk the girl home. ESPECIALLY with her as intoxicated as she was.

    • I thought HT said that LAUREN made that 4:15am call (assumably this is what HR told her. So now JR says HE made the call?

      • I mean this is waht JR told her, assumably.

      • excuse me…you may take issue with being walked home under normal circumstances… what kind of animal, allows a person who is intoxicated, shoeless, keyless and no cell phone to walk home…no sense can be made of this because she never walked out of JR’s apt

      • Why take all of this literally when it is third hand at best? A call was made from the cell phone to a party who didn’t answer it. The call was regarding L, whether she made it or the guy. We don’t have the exact words of the young man, so it doesn’t matter since he alleges that L was alive and there when the call was made and there is no proof either way. L’s roommate had made a comment about the call but she was just conveying what someone told her. Only the owner of the phone can set that straight and I am sure he has told the police the precise story whether it is true or not.

No one is even a suspect at this point, just persons of interest. There is insufficient evidence to do anything more with those guys and they have attorneys making sure that their rights are observed. Actually, I know that 2 of them went beyond what they needed to do in this case. And what the police seem to have is a big fat nothing.

Right now the two most likely scenarios are the simplest. 1) She was picked up someone who happened to come by and saw her in bad shape making her way home. 2) She never left 5 North alive. 3) Other more complicated theories. The third category is a catch all of any possibility, but to me they are remote.

    • That’s what I was wondering. So lets say he is innocent then it is possible she got into a car with a random person or someone she was familiar with. But why would there be no video of a car in that area besides the truck? OR she went into someone elses apt. Anyone think of that? They have to have some idea from where he last said she was to where she was definitely NOT seen. ala surveillance video.

      • Another thing in which I noticed on video and on photos is the construction going on right there. I’m also wondering if it was possible she realized her keys were gone and went searching for them.

      • Also consider, that according to a witness, she was semi-conscious at 3:38 a.m. – it seems highly unlikely that she would be in better shape an hour later, trying to walk home. Cocaine works quick, but prescription drugs and alcohol have a delay. Therefore, it is very unlikely that her physical condition improved, rather than going downhill.

      • They proved that time 3:38 was incorrect I do believe and the unknown person. You also have to figure they are offering a substantial reward. I’m sure some sincerely want to help but you know others are hoping for a nice payday even when they know absolutely nothing. I’m sure if there was any merit to that story they would be all over it. They had to check it out because it could have been true. And do know we only know a smidget of what they actually do know. It’s possible that they really don’t have any idea and throw things out to fish. Just because the boys lawyer up doesn’t mean they are guilty. The first people they look at are #1 boyfriend/spouse and #2 last person who saw them. In a lot of cases those are typically the people involved however this case it could possibly be a random act because she might have strolled upon another on her way home. She is a pretty young girl. If it’s true JR passed a poly then maybe he really is telling the truth. That was the first I heard about it today. It switches my thinking a bit. You have to think too maybe perhaps all these guys really don’t know much more.

    • That’s interesting. Ray is close friends with JR’s roommates, but isn’t a huge fan of JR.. I’ve read a lot of his postings on PT.

  16. I believe if there were a TRULY anonymous way to give a tip – someone would come forward.

The problem is that phones and email accounts are traceable. The PO box is great if you live within Indiana. Otherwise the stamp will reveal a state which circles in on who might have sent it. Anyone have any idea on how this could be done?

I suppose someone could call a random church or other place they trust from a public phone and tell the person to forward a message. Certainly, a pastor, or postal employer, or IU employee, or whatever would not be set up to record anything and could be trusted to forward the message.

    Any other ideas?

    • I am thinking the same thing. The call to a pastor, or postal employer, or IU isn’t a bad idea..I think they can’t think because of fear.

    • I wonder if those with information realize they can send a note via mail by placing the envelope addressed to the Bloomington P.O. box inside a larger envelope addressed to a Post Office (wouldn’t even have to be the Bloomington P.O.). The larger envelope would be opened at the intermediary Post Office and the envelope containing the note would be postmarked there before being sent on to the Bloomington P.O. box. That way, the envelope containing the note would not bear the letter’s city and state of origin, if that is the sender’s concern.

  17. Thanks for posting, Jay’s friend.

  18. Why wouldn’t calling from a pay phone be anonymous? Even if they mailed something that had their state posted on it, we still wouldn’t know who from that state mailed it.

  19. Funny, I don’t recall Jay’s atty announcing the passing of that polygraph test. Do tell!

  20. Where’s Peter Falk when you really need him?

  21. What if the problems are deeper than you guys realize? What if these “friends” signed confidentiality agreements with the police to not disclose any information whatsoever or be arrested. Who knows what is going on. If the police were involved in disposing of the body, I wouldn’t doubt that they had all the people involved to sign agreements to not speak about it. When you have a drug war going on with police informants, these things are not out of the realm of possiblity. Is it kind of telling that the jail is so close by. Isn’t the police

department also close by? They aren’t releasing the videos for a very good reason. I bet it’s because it would point the direction right to the police.

  22. I am amazed at the moral decline in youth today. For one to put their educational pursuits ahead of parents finding their daughter, birthed, raised and nurtured for 20 years. The whole lot of these friends should be ashamed, and banned from IU for not exhibiting the moral character deserving of a college education. Everyone can speculate on who knows what; but the obvious truth here is that concern and compassion for Lauren’s disappearance would be seen in the fruit of one’s character by staying in Bloomington in an effort to help authorities as much as possible; giving them access to these individuals in the early stages of this investigation as long as necessary. Not removing person, personal belongings; including vehicles, cellphones, laptops, etc. I don’t care what their summer plans were, things get put on hold when something as important as this takes place. All of those who left the area opened themselves up for speculation. You don’t want to proactively assist law enforcement in locating a missing human being then how about you just not plan on returning to the IU campus!

    • I couldn’t agree more! Furthermore, it is quite obvious that some of the POI’s, or friends of, have been responding under pseudo names in this blog. It is highly doubtful that the BPD would be involved in any sort of cover up. I have worked in many areas of the law, which placed me as a “detective” and the BPD are being careful not to overstep their boundaries or violate the rights of the possible person or persons involved. By hiring an attorney, it makes the BPD’s job that much tougher. It creates a major obstacle for the BPD. I live in Jay’s hometown, went to his high school (obviously much older than him), and the talk around town has echoed many of the concerns at IU.

    • I completely agree with you! Not only would I never have left town if one of my friends was in grave danger, my parents would have joined me in that location to do whatever they could to help. People say that times change but returning home and tweeting about your missing friend does not make you a good friend. Sad statement as to the character of all these kids and their families whether they had anything to do with Lauren’s disappearance or not. I am so sorry for the Spierers and hope that they can be comforted by the strangers in the Hoosier state and people who have traveled far from home to aid in the search.

  23. Guys, what if Lauren was a police informant. We have to think about all possibilities here. If she was a police informant and this group who was involved in hard drugs found out, and they disposed of her. What would the police do? I don’t know enough about police ethical issues to know exactly how the police would behave in this situation. Would the police try to cover it up like they seem to be doing now? Because if we found her body and it was discovered that this person killed her because she was an informant, couldn’t the police be

involved in a lawsuit by the Spierer family? Seemed to me, that it would be a million dollar lawsuit and huge outrage by the public.

Ok, and the other possibility is that the person responsible was a police informant. I think something strange is definitely going on with the police here.

    • Or picture this… Smallwood goes up, and it is full of privileged kids away from the watchful or not so watchful eyes of Mom and Dad as the case may be. So then one and one half blocks away someone with a lot of money and know- how, puts up another building and fills it with those who work together to supply an endless supply of drugs to the bottomless pit of the population of Smallwood. Along comes Lauren Spierer with a heart condition and she has the nerve to expire doing a deal. What if the occupants of 11th and Morton are not only friends but business associates working for someone bigger. They are not friends of Lauren’s, they are her source. What happens next? You tell me. This is just my imagination doing overtime. Probably more fiction than anything, but I will bet there is a side to Bloomington that most of us know nothing about. We don’t have the money or the connections.

  24. What if Lauren spierer was a police informant and was the reason why David Rohn was arrested 3 days prior to her disappearance? Hmmmm

  25. I have read the blogs; online newspaper accounts; thought the worst of the people involved; thought about what all was not done; what was done (perhaps not in a timely manner), and still come up with one bottom line –

There is a 20-year-old young woman who made some less-than-sparkling decisions, and she’s missing. For those of us who made it through our college years (mine were spent at I.U.), but for the grace of a higher power, it could have been any one of us. I would like to think my friends would have been there immediately for anything, and for as long as it took. But, the world is a different place today, and kids just haven’t been raised the same way. So many have been given way too much too easily, and don’t know what it’s like to actually work for something. This is not to say that it’s an “all of them” situation, but we sure do hear more and more about the “antics” of the young.

God knows what has happened to her, but her parents and her sister are living through hell. I think we should all take stock of what we’re saying on these blogs, and try to be somewhat more respectful… many have been already. Let’s try and focus on positive facts that might help instead of tearing each other down, which isn’t very helpful.

  26. If you are a local person or other (i.e. not a student) who suspects someone in your home or someone you know may be associated with Lauren’s disappearance please notify the police in person or use one of the anonymous tip procedures. Please don’t let the focus on the circle of students serve as a rationalization not to report any suspicions you might have. IU students who are in residence now and might know anything even minor you can always ask your RA, parent or a close friend to go with you to the police station. Or drop a note to the PO Box using one the mailboxes in a heavily traveled area of campus like the IMU.

    • To the parents of Lauren’s friends at IU – I urge you to have your children come forward and tell what they know. Please put yourself in Robbie and Char’s place and acknowledge the pain they are experiencing. If an accident happened and people panic’d at the moment – so be it. Fill in the blanks so the family can have closer. Send your information to the P.O. Box. As a parent I know you cannot live knowing the pain you may be causing another parent. You’ve shared Parent’s Weekend with the Spierers – please don’t turn your back on them now. Help your children do the right thing.

      • I have wondered why the parent’s of Lauren’s friends have not had their children come forward. It is unimaginable to me what would keep them from doing everything they can to help the Spierer family.

  27. Police informants, conspiracies and cover ups, over dose and hide the body…you people read to many trash novels. Look at the obvious and not the fantastic. You people accuse these boys of not being gentleman for not walking Lauren home, I doubt any male would want to be seen with her after her boyfriends friends are out punching anyone within arms length of her. There was trouble in paradise and they knew it, and they did not want to get involved. The last thing ant male would want was to be seen with her at 4:30 AM with her boyfriend and his friends out and on the rampage.
If anything, Wolff and his friends are directly responsible for Lauren walking home alone at that time in the morning… Look at Wolff’s facebook posts prior to Laurens abduction, he wanted her to re-friend him…He is sitting at home waiting for her that night and she doesn’t show…Odds are she wanted out of the relationship or to town it down a notch. I wouldn’t put it past Wolff to be stalking Lauren outside that building that night, I don’t care what his friends say about his whereabouts. What if he was and he seen her leaving the building at that time in the morning, thinking she spent the night with Rossman? We now have MOTIVE…look to the obvious and not your fantastic trash novel theories.

  28. Also…it makes absolutely no sense for any of these young men to try and hid Laurens body if she did overdose…why take that kind of risk when all they had to do was leave her in the ally way? And should her movements be traced back to them, they would just have to say, “Yea she was here but did not get any drugs from us, we have no idea what happened to her after she left.” And there would be no way to prove otherwise. If anything, Rosenbaum is probably truthful by admitting he was the last to see her, and has no good reason to go through the effort to hide her body and draw to police to his door with search warrants.

The odds that some stranger, serial rapist is out cruising the area at 4:30 AM on a Friday morning when no one is usually around is extraordinary, they look for target rich environments. And he would not have stalked her that night when she is hanging around these young men that would put up a fight with him, they are cowards. He would also have no idea if she lived in that building or was visiting, so her exit time was not predicable. There was absolutely no evidence of a struggle of any kind on Lauren’s route home, no blood or ripped cloths from an attack, no screams for help…If you wish to be helpful get on the same page as the police and know what they know…that Lauren willingly entered a vehicle/or walked off with, someone she knew.

Instead of reading you trash mysteries and watching those silly CI shows, go get a copy of FBI profiler John Douglas’ book, “journey Into Darkness”, and see what he says about good people who do bad things, and how they act afterwards…he will even tell you what kind of stressors cause such actions prior to the crime. And you will discover as I have that there is only ONE person in this crowd that fits the profile, and has a motive to harm Lauren

  29. If the police are dealing drugs in bloomington, that creates a very dangerous situation. I never knew how common it was. If you go on Google and look up “police informant murdered”, there are a few stories about informants being murdered by both criminals and the police. The police officers who are dealing drugs have an advantage because they can find out who the police informants are. When they find it out, they murder the informants.

  30. I think all the police informant talk is ridiculous. Please stop promoting such conspiracy theories.

  31. Let’s help the person who knows where Lauren is. I am not interested in getting people in trouble. I just want the Spierers to be able to take their little girl home.

You can’t mail anything. There are handwriting samples, fingerprints, postmarks, etc.
You could call a rabbi, news station, etc from a payphone. It might be recorded though. Calls are usually recorded for quality assurance. I wouldn’t go that route.

This has to be done electronically. Obviously, you aren’t going to send this from your own email address. We need you to be safe to give your information. Don’t go to a Kinkos as they require a credit card for internet use. Hotels usually require a hotel key so that won’t work either.

Go to a library if they don’t require you to swipe your library card. Set up a web email account (hotmail, gmail, etc.) Send tips to findlauren@gmail.com. These tips go to the family and not the police department. You could also go to a place that has Wifi like Starbucks.

Anybody else have ideas to protect those people that know information?

    • Thanks Jenny.

I expressed similar thoughts in a previous post. I believe in order to really get valuable tips it has to be considered what a young person would accept as ‘anonymous’.
To me, a phone call would be out of question. Simply wouldn’t trust it – let a lone an anonymous police line. C’mon!
Snail mail is a great idea and I think the Spierer’s did very well setting up that PO Box. However, this may only work for a person in Bloomington or the Indiana. I think one can work around DNA, fingerprints, etc. Just not around a post mark. Imagine you are Lauren’s only friend from, let’s say, North Dakota. Pretty traceable then.

Email might be the best option. But there are IP addresses, even when you mail from a library.
I wish the Spierer’s would get an expert to find a really secure way to turn in tips. However, the expert alone would not be credible enough. His information would have to be verifiable by simply searching for it on the internet.

IMO though, the best way to receive a tip might be that route. Kids are scared for whatever reason. And, of course, many involved in this are supposedly rather wealthy, but what about a person that might not have the resources to hire a lawyer.

Surely, someone on here might have good solutions for this predicament and can work with police and family in order to get it set up and, of course – publicized.

    • Jenny, someone with information could print a note and envelope on their computer to send to the P.O. box. If they’re worried about fingerprints, they could wear latex gloves while handling the note and envelope. I posted the following earlier to explain how someone can anonymously send a note from out-of-town:

Place the envelope addressed to the Bloomington P.O. box inside a larger envelope, addressed to any Post Office (wouldn’t even have to be the Bloomington P.O.). The larger envelope would be opened at the intermediary Post Office and the envelope containing the note would be postmarked there before being sent on to the Bloomington P.O. box. That way, the envelope containing the note would not bear the letter’s city and state of origin, if that is the sender’s concern.

The larger/outer envelope would be disposed of at the intermediary P.O., so the sender wouldn’t have to worry about fingerprints once the envelope containing the note is inside the larger envelope. I hope this helps with giving people more options for divulging information about Lauren.

  32. The focus of this investigation needs to be the source of the alleged cocaine that allegedly was consumed that night. Lauren’s friends and many others know who sells drugs around town.

Reading online comments from alleged residents; it appears 5 North Townhomes was the place to score cocaine.

Dealing drugs is dangerous, violent, nasty shitty stuff. The types of people who deal cocaine know what to do with a dead body.

LS may have OD & her body dumped by someone else on the supply line. So, whom did the boys at 5 North get their cocaine from? And, how big of a cocaine ring is it?

If cadaver dogs did not search J. Rosembaum’s apartment, it is unconscionable.

  33. I wish I could come up with some way they would feel secure. I just can’t figure one out..but they need something!!

  34. Great idea and easy to explain! (Sorry, must have missed your earlier post).

  35. Help me out here, I am confused, when they say that only one friend has talked to the police…..haven’t the police talked to all of the kids that were with her that night? Who are they wanting to talk to? and about what? If friends were not there that night, why would they talk to the police? Forgive me for not following this exactly right….it is all getting very confusing to me!

    thanks

  36. Something struck me today about this case regarding Jesse Wolf, her boyfriend. We know he reported her missing to the police early in the afternoon of the next day, as well as called her parents.

    My question…..

Who the hell reports their girlfriend missing SO SOON after she can’t be found? I live in Bloomington, go to IU, and have a girlfriend living in a different apt. Although I consider myself a pretty protective boyfriend – If I can’t get a hold of her the day after she has been out late without me, I’ll be concerned, angry, and perplexed – but it’s OUT of my mind to flip out and report her missing and call her parents within less than 12 hours of her being gone. I would probably assume (and most guys will agree on this), that she may just be out shopping alone or something to blow off steam, ignoring my calls, or at the very worst in bed with some other guy….

……..But to feel the situation is urgent enough to call the police and let her parents know less than 12 hours of him not being able to get in touch with her suggests something very negative on his part. She is an adult, not a 10 year old. 12 hours of not knowing where anyone is is NOTHING – even our closest loved ones.

I feel like this action of his alone is almost evidence….

  37. Those of you who don’t think the police were involved in the disposal of the body. Let me say that there is a normal way of operating if you are a police dept and this police dept is not operating normally at all. They aren’t bringing people down to the station. They aren’t following up on leads. They are dismissing eye witness accounts. They are even now this week promoting false leads like the white truck. How hard is it to look at the time stamps to see that the truck didn’t circle the block? Come on. Open your eyes. This is not how a normal
police dept behaves. Normal police dept’s interrogate witnesses. Normal police track down people and talk to them. They claim that everyone is cooperating so then why not bring them down to the station? Explain that one. Why not polygraph all 10 POI’s. Whoever was the undercover informant made a call and had her body removed somehow.
Look up on Google….there are instances where police have told an informant that he’s allowed to beat citizens up and kill them if necessary. Yeah keep turning a blind eye to the obvious corruption. AFter all, conspiracies NEVER happen in the USA…..

    • Wouldn’t the FBI that is involved realize this? Or the state police? They can’t all be in on this….I think you watch to many crime shows.

    • I’m sorry, but are you in the BPD? If not, then stop assuming you know everything they are doing. The police informant comments are coming from way out of left field. Maybe they messed up with the white truck but mistakes happen!! Lets keep the focus on finding Lauren.

  38. Police involved? I’m perplexed as to why her friends haven’t all been called in for questioning, but I doubt the FBI and police are covering it up. It’s obvious her friends know what happened. The police need to get one of them to crack.

  39. I don’t think the police are involved in any cover up here other than trying to minimize any mistakes they made in starting the investigation of this case. That is one possibility, I suppose, as is the one that aliens swooped her up in their space ship. The more likely scenarios are that someone picked her up on her way home, or she never left her 5 North on her own.

Yes, the FBI are involved. IU students are being questioned at their homes, those who are no longer in Bloomington.

I don’t think much more could have been done in this case as LS’s absence was reported very quickly, parents came to Bloomington right away and the police were involved much quicker than usual and by the rule book in terms of missing young adults, and the search parties have been very large. Few missing people get this kind of attention. Whatever happened to her, she was whisked out of the area quickly and in a small window of time when few people are out and about. Maybe her friends know or suspect something, maybe not. I know the parents want closure and say they won’t blame anyone for what happened, but that is not assurance enough for any responsible party to come forward and it doesn’t take more than one person to have moved her. She can be very far away, across state lines where people are hardly paying attention to this story. Until someone comes across her, it is unlikely a search will pick where she is.

It’s easy to say that the police should get one of the friends to crack, but they have their rights too, and there is no way to tell who has any info and who does not. There is no reason why anyone should give info that is not going to be helpful, make others truly miserable and cost a fortune which is what is going to happen if someone steps up that is involved in this sort of crime. Look at the Casey Anthony case. There is a real chance that those involved will never be caught and that is what that person or persons is hoping. They may be scared, stressed and feeling guilty but they’d feel a lot worse if they are in the lime light. The police, parents, public have nothing to offer anyone in exchange for coming forward.

    • You keep doing this – pointing out the worst consequences if someone comes forward. Why? Why post something that may motivate someone to speak up? Please. Because there ARE advantages – ESPECIALLY if a tip is made anonymous.

      • Because it is true.

      • It is counter productive to the effort. Think about it.

      • He is absolutely right, to be honest. If someone does come forward, chances are that person will bear the full force of public opinion and the like. Nothing is anonymous. NOTHING. They can trace you down where ever you send your tip from. If someone tipped them where the body can be found, you can bet they’ll track that person down. So in a way, these kids have incentive to be quiet until a case is formed or a body is found. If it’s obvious they’re caught, they may confess or a lesser sentence, but I doubt anyone will be coming forward as long as the police are as clueless as they seem to be about this case.

      • They seem to be doing a good job keeping the “mystery mans” identity a secret.

  40. Casey Anthony case? I think it’s clear as day what happened there. There’s no questioning who really did that.

There is an outside chance someone did abduct her and dump her randomly, but most of the time that isn’t the case. Random abductions happen very rarely. Another theory could think of, that only works if the police didn’t search all the victims apartments, is one of the guys stored her body in a freezer or suitcase. Then they left town to go home after summer session ended, and dumped her body along the way between IU and NY. That may not be plausible if everything was \ searched prior to them leaving campus.

    • The focus of this investigation needs to be the source of the alleged cocaine that allegedly was consumed that night.

  41. If she were an informant, wouldn’t she have had to face some sort of charge in the past? Seems unusual that someone would just be a snitch for no reason. I mean even Bubbles had a few misdemeanors.

    • Just the opposite. Informants don’t get arrested at all. That’s how they become informants. Usually these people get in trouble but rather than take them to jail, the police offer to make them informants.

  42. So where is the info on any of the boys? Amazing to me that we cant find any information- Like did Jay Rosenbaum have any room mates? What about his neighbors? they didn’t hear anything?? those areas are littered with surveillance cameras they must have more info. How about David Rohn? I’ve heard rumors tht they have all had arrests but cant find the ino on line??? Are the police covering everything up for them? What about Jay Rosenbaum he must have had a car… did they ever go thru his car and home before he left- what about Rohn? So the last pe’ople to see her you cant get a warrant to go thru their things? cmon!!! what are the police helping to cover up? Did anyone read that link about confidential informants- sounds just like this horror story follows one of those scenerios perfectly. I understand we arent going to hear or see certain details but these are public facts! I think the police were extremely surprised to see the outpour of support for this girl and family. something they probably underestimated. Did I read that they are only allowed to search a 5 mile radius today. What is really going on? I feel so bad for her parents and sister. They have so many people from around the country, strangers helping them but the people who could really help locate lauren are gone and quiet. If they were innocent there would be a different energy from them and their families. Instead it’s just dead silence.

    • Indiana Dept of Corrections has a website. Not exactly sure where on there but you can search through Monroe Co. and find out the criminal activities of JR, DR, CR, etc.

    • Exactly what I said, Cheryl but these other people here making comments want to just assume that the police are doing their best when everything the BPD has done so far has led me to believe that they haven’t done jack-squat. Yes, I don’t think the police expected this outpouring. You can tell that the police are nervous when they do those press conferences. That one guy on youtube was going to show up at the press conference and ask the police some questions about why they aren’t investigating more but he was trespassed at the entrance and not allowed inside. They pretty much knew who he was. I’m assuming that they saw his youtube videos.

  43. I wish I had more info on Jesse Wolff’s actions the day after. Why would you immediately assume she is missing. I think most people’s first calls would be to the hospital and to the jail thinking she had been arrested (if she’s not just sleeping it off) – why assume she is missing after 10 hours? Very suspicious.

    • That’s always been strange to me. When I was in school, I sometimes wouldn’t see my roommate for a day or two. Usually I’d hear from him mid-afternoon, but it seems all too strange that the police were immediately called in the morning to report her missing. It sounds like they were still in panic mode and did it so it wouldn’t look like a coverup.

      • I too have thought it odd that she was reported so quickly….unless of course they worried immediately due to her heart condition…also perhaps because they knew about the state she was in the previous evening…All in all, though, I thought the same thing.

    • YES!! That is what has struck me as odd since day one. Kids that age do not automatically think that someone is missing and involve the police so quickly. That just doesn’t happen. (I double checked with everyone I know under the age of 30!) Especially since he knew that she did not have her phone. Also, there is no mention in any account that he called her parents to ask if they knew where she was or if they had spoken with her that morning. Why would the first call he made to them be to tell them she was missing. Doesn’t add up to me. And he must have been made aware of the altercation between his friends and CR and LS. His friends would have called him immediately to tell him what happened. That would be typical male teenage behavior. I think the person who said his phone records are key is right on the money. Maybe there is nothing there, but nothing about the morning after she goes missing makes sense to me in terms of typical young adult behavior.

      • This early reporting could also explain why the police seemed to be playing catch-up that first week. Maybe they assumed that she was just somewhere sleeping it off, or with some other guy and she would show up by Monday morning? So at first they talked to folks, but by the time they realized something really WAS wrong, they had to rush around to get the video and try to talk to the persons of interest again?

  44. Quite likely that he called around first and someone told him that she was walking home by herself at 4something a.m. In this case, I would be getting worried as well.
I would also expect him to call in a missing person later, rather than sooner, if he had something to do with it. Apparently they had a fight or broke up or something of that nature – so he wasn’t even responsible to check on her. He could have left it up to her roommate to report her missing.

    • I agree. But first reaction would not be that she is missing. The first reaction of 99% of college students would be, in order 1. jail 2. hospital. I would like to hear about his phone records. If the jail and hospital were called before reporting her missing, that would help dispel some of my questions about him.

      • What I mean is first reaction beyond “she’s sleeping it off” OR “she hooked up ‘off campus’ (a term we used for spending the night at someone elses place)”

  45. From the jump, I thought it was strange that JW reported her missing so soon. Like someone posted earlier, I had roommates in college and they would sometimes not come home after a nightout until later the next day. So it’s weird that was his first conclusion – go to the police.

Also quit with the police informant nonsense. To assume a coverup is to assume the BPD are smart enough to do so. Look at the Crystal Grubb case as an example. They are in over their heads. Didn’t solve the Grubb case, probably won’t solve this one either. Hope today’s search turns up something.

    • I’ll quit being suspicious of the police if you quit being suspicious of Jesse Wolff…that way nothing will ever get solved. I can state my opinions too, you jerk. You don’t tell me what to do.

      • JW’s actions do appear very suspicious. It does seem very odd that she would be reported missing so soon. In fact, I thought that someone has to be missing at least 48hrs before the police will even take a missing persons report.

If she had “hooked up” with someone (and particularly on a weekend) its completely plausible that she would still be with him well into the next day.

Ok, her phone was still at the bar, but it also appears that JW and LS were having issues, so she could have been avoiding him. And, is it not odd, that LS spent an entire evening with more than a dozen or so friends and acquaintances and JW was never part of her evening and even after running into his friends he had no idea that she was running around wasted with another guy. Everybody texts everything in real time these days. Does not sound like a happy couple to me.

So, yes, JW seems very much like a possible suspect…

      • No need to call names. My comment was stating the opinion that the police informant talk is absolutely ridiculous. I apologize if you thought I was calling you out when I was really just calling out how silly the theory was. Obviously you own that theory.

On the other hand, JW being potentially involved is not crazy, paranoid or delusional. It seems plausible EVEN THOUGH I really only questioned why this guy went to the police sooooo quickly. To me, as someone who partied in college, going to the police right away does not seem like a normal reaction to not being able to get a hold of your ex-girlfriend.

      • The boyfriend is being carefully investigated with his roommates and friends being questioned by the FBI. He was alarmed when his text to her cell phone got answered by the bar where it was left. When he went there, phone and shoes were left at the bar. That would get anyone apprehensive. He then contacted roommate who had no good answer and got the key to the apartment, and found the heart meds were there untouched. That was the key reason he called the parents. Didn’t take her meds, shoes and cell phone left at a bar.

Not to say I, or the authorities for that matter are eliminating him as a suspect. There just is no proof or even enough circumstantial evidence to make him a suspect. Nor for the others.

A person or persons, known or unknown to Lauren took her dead or alive somewhere. That’s all we know.

  46. It wasn’t the weekend, she disappeared on a Thursday night/Friday Morning

    • Thursday is the start of the wknd in college.

      • Ah I see, well that would make more sense then, thanks. I’m in university and even though you can go out almost every night theoretically, few get started as early Thursday as there is still Friday classes for most

  47. Did she have class on Friday?

  48. A skeptic would call all of his actions track covering, g.

Like I said, if he called the jail or hospital first, I’d think that would be a little more helpful in eliminating him as a suspect. Could still be considered track covering, but it would be going to greater lengths.
